One of the big issues arising from the resurrections matrix trailer – we covered most of them in our Matrix 4 trailer failure – is around the character played by actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
The actor Watchmen and Candyman certainly seems to have a big role in the new film, but the many references we arrive at the Morpheus of Laurence Fishburne around the character of Abdul-Mateen had led to speculation he was connected to one way or another.
Well, the actor himself could now have confirmed his role in the movie – the actor shared a photo of his character shot two sub-mixed pistols on Instagram with the simple legend ‘Morpheus’.
We guess the truth is probably slightly more complicated than that. Morpheus, after all, has survived the events of matrix revolutions, the third payment of the original trilogy – and while Fishburne does not appear in the fourth film movie film, Jada Pinkett Smith, who played his former Niobe romantic partner, appear in the movie. Some have speculated that the character of Abdul-Mateen could be their child.
Once again, we want to do not draw from great conclusions here, in case it looks embarrassing in four months when we all have what is wrong. But the referencing of the Abdul-Mateen ‘Morpheus’ suggests at least that the character has a link with the hero of Zion, especially when he is considered about some of the more obvious references of the trailer. The character of Abdul-Mateen is the one who offers Neo the red or blue pill in this new suite, and we also see the shift shift in a dojo, reminiscent of two emblematic scenes of the first movie – and we even see this new character wearing Sunglasses similar to Morpheus.
Maybe he just took the name of Coden and the aesthetics?
The matrix resurrections will be published on December 22 around the world, although HBO Max, subscribers can monitor it for 31 days on the United States advertising plan.
We can learn more about the movie later today, on September 10 and the co-writer Lana Wachowski will have to appear on a panel with Cloud Atlas Author David Mitchell, who also co-wrote this scenario.
Analysis: Is Morpheus dead in the online matrix?
A big point of discussion in the last 24 hours was the destiny of Morpheus in the Canon matrix. The character was technically killed in the Little-played video game the online matrix in mid-years – it was an official product with Wachowskis support, at a time when they were clearly happy to turn away from the series.
Now you could argue that it is Canon, and that explains why the shipping fishing was not the cup of the matrix 4. However, we are ready to believe that Lana Wachowski would not let the table remove the painting by a game Mmo missed – and that the choice of not throwing fishfish was rather led by narrative decisions.
Nevertheless, the online matrix is a fascinating product of its time. The attempt to continue to continue the history of movies in a computer game is conceptually ringing, but the online matrix was another bumpy effort to take the series in the interactive space – enter the matrix and the matrix: the path From Neo does not remember classics, all these years later.
