Samsung patent shows future S Pen with an integrated camera

One thing owned by smartphone users is that they want the most screen space in the limits given from certain form factors. What that means, whatever size happens with a smartphone, we want as much screen as possible and no notch. Usually, cameras and other sensors are hidden in the notch, consuming a screen space that can be used for videos or images, among others.

So far, there are several methods used by smartphone makers to eliminate notches, especially using pop-up cameras. The new Samsung patent has emerged that the artwork feature highlights very attractive stylus pens with an integrated camera. Stylus has several operating modes, including those that appear at the top of the stylus of the body of the smartphone, providing a selfie camera that does not take the screen space on the front of the smartphone.

The camera is located at the end of the pen instead of the end of the stylus. The pen on the patent also acts as a traditional stylus that Samsung has offered for a while for some of its smartphones. Other operating modes allow pen cameras to use remotely with movements to activate shutter.

Patent images highlight wireless connectivity and open holder, allowing the camera to be supported. The removable camera also has an integrated microphone and shutter release button. Integrating the microphone shows that it can also be used to record videos. In addition, the design will support several camera sensors, allowing several holes and viewpoints.

Samsung Patent was filed with the Organization of the World Intellectual Property on March 5, 2021. Patent entitled “Portable Terminal Includes a Separable Camera.” While the patent was re-submitted in March, it was only released on September 10, 2021. As usual, the patent has no guarantee that a product using technology will come to the market.
