In the Android world, smartphone makers have long moved from traditional notches to hole-hole cutouts. Some, like ZTE, Xiaomi, and now Samsung, even jump under the cameras, sometimes called the bottom panel sensor or the camera down screen. Apple, however, has so far remained a faithful bucket notch user, but it might change soon. The iPhone 14 can be very well seen the first time Apple switches to the under-display face ID implementation, but that does not mean the camera will be completely hidden behind the display too.

Smartphone makers always dream of giving users as much screen room as possible, but the front facing camera is always on their way. Various solutions have been tested, from notches to popup cameras, but ideals have really hidden the camera and all the other front facing sensors fully. Ideal but not yet practical, because it is evidenced by the current implementation of the camera below.

Apple has never been one to implement something half baked, so we might not see it dive into the camera down the screen even next year. However, maybe, moving from the notch to hide the face ID sensor under the screen. According to the supply chain supply consultant Ross Young, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max model has a very high opportunity to implement the Under-Display facial ID next year.

To be clear, the camera will not be under the screen, and Apple will most likely use the pieces of holes for the image sensor. What will be hidden under the screen is another Face ID component that usually takes space in the notch, namely a dot projector, flood illuminator, and infrared camera. That said, Young warned that it was not the final feature for the iPhone 14 next year but it was easier to do than the bottom camera.

The list of features of the iPhone 14 Young also records the existence of ID Touch, most likely below the screen too. Apple has long been rumored to be working on this technology, even before the first screen fingerprint scanner appears on a smartphone. Apple implementation, however, is estimated to only add a face ID than a substitute.
