Sony has announced the acquisition of Firesprite, the UK-based development studio behind titles such as persistence horror survival.
In a new post on the official PlayStation blog, Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, welcomed FiresPrite to the PlayStation Studios family, saying that “the technical and creative capabilities of the team would be very important to grow our exclusive catalog of stellar.”
Firesprite is now the 14th studio to join the PlayStation Studios, becoming the third acquisition of Sony this year, with Housemememememememememememarque and Nixxes also joined the PlayStation Studios in recent months.

Like the recent acquisition of Sony, Firesprite has a relationship with Playstation, after previously collaborating with the Asobi team in the playroom title for PS4 and PSVR.
It seems, like the studio will be given the freedom to work more than its own advanced projects, with Firesprite MD, Graeme Ankers, said in a statement on the PlayStation blog, “Playstation also gave us the opportunity to create our own IP, perseverance, and we were given Creative freedom to explore, innovate, and release our survival horror game is very proud. Now, as the first party studio, we know we have the full support of the Playstation in advancing our inheritance combining creativity and technical innovation to offer some truly unique experiences for Playstation fans. “
When it comes to specifics about what Firesprite is warned to be brought to the Playstation platform, well, which is still unclear at this time. However, at a glance on the Firesprite website showed that the studio was hiring for some roles where it seemed to be three projects.
There are advertisements for the role of “aaa branching narrative adventure game”; A “next generation PvP shooter project that breaks the land with the game as a focus of service”; And “VR Adventure-Adventure Project is very interesting from one of the most original and successful Multimillion Console IP titles in the last 10 years.”
With more than 250 employees, Firesprite is not a small fried studio and various games here point to some real ambitions.
Analysis: And now we wait
This acquisition feels like a smart step for Playstation, especially because of the various Firesprite projects when traveling can help the PS5 game library grow and diversify.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.Biz, PlayStation’s Hermen Hulst said that the Firesprite experience would make for the platform “it would be very different from the team you know on the PlayStation Studios” and it doesn’t feel bad things. Has an open studio to experiment with what the platform can do – something that Hulst says firesprite loves – maybe the best way to innovate and create experiences that feel like something you won’t get anywhere else.
At present, regardless of the list of work, we cannot know what Firesprite will be brought to the table but the Playstation is clearly confident in the acquisition.
Even so, that we will have a little wait before we get the real sense of what the FiresPrit has. When viewing a job posting on the Firesprite site, both the narrative adventure game and PVP shooter are described as in the early stages of development, with the latter particularly “at the initial stage of multi-year development”.
But hey, good things come to those who are waiting when the saying goes. Fortunately, PlayStation fans can still understand what the future is held for the PLATFORM thanks to the PS5 showcase taking place on Thursday, September 9 at 1pp PT / 4PM ET / 9PM BST / 6AM. Stipulated to last around 40 minutes, we expect a showcase to focus on the game released “this holiday and outside”.
