Fire alarms activate in the Russian segment of the ISS

The crew aboard the ISS has had a few a few months with some potentially important problems that occur in the Russian segment of the spatial station. When Russia connected the new laboratory module to the spatial station, the segment thrusters were triggered with impotence, pushing the entire station of its normal orientation. Russian cosmonauts have also recently discovered cracks in one of their modules.

Thursday, a potentially catastrophic issue occurred aboard the ISS when cosmonauts woke up for smoking alarms anda hot odor. NASA and Roscosmos confirmed enabled alarms at 1:55 GMT (9:55 EDT Wednesday). The smoke alarms aboard the station were triggered in the Zvezda service module in the Russian segment of the ISS.

The alarm and burn smell occurred during the automatic battery charge, according to the Russian Space Agency. The astronaut Thomas Pesque reported that the smell of burning plastic or electronic equipment was heading for the American segment of the station. The members of the Russian crew woke up and returned to an air filter to eliminate the smoke of the air and, after the clean air, the cosmonauts returned to sleep.

The alarms were triggered in front of a spacious space expected that NASA declared IRA from the front as expected. Roscosmos says that all systems aboard the spatial station are currently working normally. Cosmonauts work on the completion of the new Naka module that moored with the ISS in July. Russia’s new laboratory module was years of delay.

Russia threatened to leave the ISS in 2025, citing the condition of the spatial station. The problems on board the station were limited to the modules provided by Russia. Russia suggested if it leaves the ISS partnership, it could build a new space station with China.
